Chiron Corporation Chooses Open Text Livelink Solution for Alliance Management System
San Mateo, CA –

Open Text Corporation
(OTEX:NASDAQ) of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada today announced that
biotechnology company Chiron Corporation (CHIR:NASDAQ) of Emeryville,
California has chosen the Livelink solution as the basis for a global alliance
management system. The system implementation, to be completed by the
end of this year, is initially being rolled out at the company's corporate
headquarters.
When the planned global installation is completed by the end of 1997, the
majority of Chiron's managers who are responsible for alliances and
contracts around the world will be using the new Livelink system.
"Open Text's Livelink suite has the integrated, collaborative computing
architecture we need, in an easy to install, intuitive client/server package,"
said Steve Cedeno, Manager, Chiron Contract Compliance and Analysis.
"The system also has an easy upgrade path to Open Text's Livelink
Intranet suite when we decide to 'go to the net' to implement a web-based
intranet system."
The Livelink-based contract management system is replacing inefficient
paper-based manual systems and will allows users easy, shared access
to the hundreds of contracts and alliance-related documents that reside in
numerous databases across the company.
"Our Livelink C/S solution, in use at firms as diverse as British Petroleum
and United Airlines, has always been a best-of-breed solution," said Tom
Jenkins, President & CEO, Open Text Corporation, "and provides the
perfect stepping stone to our Livelink Intranet solutions when Chiron
decides to go that route. This is a strength that few other collaborative
computing vendors can provide, and which has attracted other
bio-technology and pharmaceutical firms such as Amgen and Genzyme."
Running on the Sun/Solaris platform and using an Oracle relational
database, Open Text's Livelink solution offers an easy user interface and
graphical workflow painter as part of the new alliance management
system. The initial pilot has been implemented on a client/server platform
and can be upgraded to a standalone Intranet version.
